ONE THEORY OF HALLOWEEN!

There have always been many theories about the origin of Halloween, and its history. Some possible definitions of Halloween are that it is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31 which has some roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints, and is the evening before All Saints' Day. One very interesting and scary theory of Halloween relates to the Celtic festival of Samhain. Gaelic legend of Samhain is one of the theories about Halloween. It is believed that it originated as a Celtic end of summer and harvest festival and was named after the Celtic name for the month. It later became associated with the Christian All Souls' Day, also known as the Day of the Dead. Some of the rituals associated with Samhain are now seen in Halloween traditions. Samhain is the origin of Halloween, and it is believed that when he reigned on earth, people kept their children in that night, and wore costumes to hide from him, carved pumpkins to worship him and left sweets at their doors to appease him.

HALLOWEEN!

As everyone already knows Halloween is this Sunday the 31st. YAY! Halloween is that one holiday during the year where everyone can be silly, glamorous, or unique. It’s that one day where we get to dress up as our idols or favorite fictional characters. It’s a holiday for all ages. The best part is well……the CANDY AND SCARY MOVIES. The only downside is the high cost of the costumes, and accessories. The pricy way of getting a costume is to go to a Halloween store such as Party City, and buying a full costume. It may come out pretty pricy than making your own costume. However, then you will be ready for Halloween without any worries. This Halloween I’m planning on dressing up as a vampire, a modern vampire. I’m going to dress in black and look pretty normal but with two extraordinary features, fangs and some fake blood. All my friends have been asking me why I won’t wear a cape as a part of my costume and my answer to that has been that I want to dress up as a modern vampire such as Nina Dobrev on the Vampire Diaries. Visit http://www.cwtv.com/shows/the-vampire-diaries . The modern vampires of today do not wear capes or sleep in coffins and some are even able to come out in the sun. Therefore, for this Halloween I will be a modern vampire. In addition, my costume was actually pretty inexpensive. It consists of fangs, fake blood and dark make-up.

Insurance advertisement !

One of my future career options is going into the field of advertising. My future career goal is to be able to make advertisements for various products both international and domestic.
Over the past few weeks, I have been paying more atention to various advertisements and the various techniques that are used. The two advertisements that have stood out the most to me have been the Gieco and Allstate commercials. Both of these commercials have similarities and differences. They are similar in their entertainment value. However, they are different in their qualities.
Gieco's advertisements are high in their entertainment value, but lack information. The two famous characters for the insurance comapny are the Cave men and the Gieco creature. These characters have entertaining qualities and grab the audiences attention. Their fame has made them  become a part of our culture today. For example, the cavemen characters recieved their own thirty minute comedy sitcome a few years ago. However, they were canceled before the end of their first season.
Now as we look at the Allstate commercials one can see the similarities in entertainment value such as the mayhem character portrayed by, Dean Winters. Mayhem is very entertaining in the sense of the situations he is put in and the comedic talent of the actor. He grabs our attention every time he appears on our t.v screens. The difference between the Allstate commercials and the Gieco ones is quality information. The Allstate commercials illustrate real life problems such as natural disasters, careless drivers, unexpected pedestrians with the solution of getting insured with Allstate. They portray these real life disasters with enough humor that the audience is still able to grasp the main idea and be entertained. These advertisements help the viewers become aware of the possible dangers of not being insured. Conversly, the Gieco advertisements do a very good job with the entertainment aspect but do not help the viewer understand why the should be insured with Gieco. The Allstate commercials are something too look forward to while watching ads between your favorite shows or movies.
In conclusion, once we clearly compare the two product's various commercial techniques one can see the similarities and differences. The similaritie being the product being advertised such as insurance, and both having a high rating in entertainment. The differences being in the different characters used such as the Gieco, cavemen, and mayhem. In addition, the difference in the quality of information in both commercials. One can clearly see that the Allstate commercials have a better way of portraying their reasons for why insurance is necessary with the right amount of entertainment. While the Gieco commercials just consistent the entertainment value, and lack in the quality of information. Finally, we need more commercials like the Allstate ones. I hope that one day I will be able to make those decisions and come up with advertisements like Allstates'.
